Winnie's Worries

Winnie carefully washed the blood off of her as Sara grilled her about Watcher. "So he's a werewolf or something, right?", she implored. "Uh yeah, I guess, but his eyes are human; compassionate....strange," Winnie replied thinking of him lying around her in the snow. "Also, there's nothing monstrous about him. He doesn't seem like he's after my blood", Only my heart!  Knowing he was wounded out there, only made her feel worse. But he would survive, he had to. "So are there more of these...things?" Sara asked more eagerly.  Winnie hesitated, then replied, "I'm not sure?" Were there more? He mentioned being leader of a pack.....are they all like him...human? At least their eyes, I mean? His eyes looked so sad when I ran from him? This is too freaky! What am I doing? Sara grilled Winnie some more before getting deeper into this situation her friend was in. It was not normal, true, but Winnie wasn't lying, she never had, and she wasn't the one to joke. She saw Winnie's eyes were terrified. She wished she could help. She went out while Winnie was showering, and took a step towards the woods. She knew her own mother told her to stay inside from the account told by Winnie's mother. But she couldn't! Sara suddenly heard howling far off, she stepped back. She heard a whimper....it's true. Watcher came into view soon. He carried a cloak in his mouth, and set it on the snow. She saw where Winnie had stopped the bleeding by making a tourniquet. This was very real to her now. He looked in her eyes but didn't speak to her as he had done to Winnie. Watcher and Sara stared for a long moment. His eyes were the green Winnie described, and yet, sad. As she heard more howling closer this time, she said, "Go! Leave!" and like that he got up and left. She raced back inside where her friend was washing her clothes. Winnie saw what was going on, the pack were hunting him. This wouldn't be a happy ending, she guessed. This would be a war. How could whatever was between them survive the coming storm.
